The Lake George Land Conservancy’s annual Hike-A-Thon is a one-day event held each July 5th, created to showcase LGLC’s parks and preserves as free public resources, and to promote an appreciation for the outdoors and protecting the land that protects the lake. The first Hike-A-Thon took place in 2013, and it’s been getting bigger and better ever since!
Hikes take place simultaneously at locations around Lake George, culminating with aerial photography of each group by helicopter. The event is free – we want everyone to be able to participate, regardless of financial means. Donations are gratefully accepted, however, and are used to run the event; any extra is put towards stewardship costs associated with the maintenance and enhancement of these properties.
Check out the Sites page for details about this year’s Hike-A-Thon locations.
Aerial photographs are taken by renowned photographer Carl Heilman, II, from a helicopter piloted by Bruce Mowery of North Country Heliflite. For the photograph, the groups are stationed at each preserve’s summit or other appropriate location. Photos are available for purchase – see our Photo Gallery page for details. Our thanks also extend to Carl Heilman for use of his photos on this website and in other Hike-A-Thon materials.
We rely on a wonderful volunteer crew to help lead hikes and keep things running smoothly on the ground, and we can always use more! If you would like to volunteer as a hike leader or to help with check-in, or organization/marketing of the event, please see our volunteer page for more information.
All participants must pre-register online. Registration for the 2017 Hike-A-Thon will open March 1 and close June 16; be sure to register early to take advantage of special deals!
